I thoroughly enjoyed the week’s photo holiday on the island of Santorini in June 2009.
Dimitri is a splendid tutor and leader, very kind, patient and helpful at all times. A superb photographer who is full of creative ideas and gladly pointed me in the right directions.
The locations were well thought out and we reached them in good time for the best light.
Highly recommended.
I was a bit nervous in the first day I must admit, as I am a complete beginner to photography but Dimitri is such a laid back and relaxed character that, within an hour, I was completely into the course and loving every minute of it.
The result? I went back home with some images that I really love (for the very first time) and some very invaluable knowledge.
Now, I feel very confident to get out there and do some photography just myself.
Dimitri, thank you very much. We’ll soon see each other on another course.
Regards, Helen.
It is 6.40am in October and we are sitting in Dimitri’s vehicle parked in a tiny patch of rough land by a single track road on the isle of Skye. It’s dark and it’s raining. “What does he think he is doing?” we all think, but it would be churlish to say anything as he is cheerful as always. We chat about cameras and joke about his new big lens. Then the rain stops and I take a walk to look over to the lighthouse and the mainland. The light is flat and uninspiring. The others join me one by one. A few tripods go up. Suddenly Dimitri is there. “Look behind you! See that clear patch in the sky? Get ready!”
His enthusiasm is infectious and the mood changes. The sky lightens and develops shapes and patterns, subtle muted colours appear in the landscape below. Quietly Dimitri makes sure everyone has thought about their framing and checked their exposure. Just 10 minutes later, and as quickly as it arrived the light has gone. It starts to rain again but we don’t care. It’s only 7.20am and we all have something in the bag already.
Day one of the Earth’s Beauty tour to Skye 2008 has begun. A day of great locations, hands on advice served with unfailing good humour, plenty of anecdotes and all finished off with a photoshop lesson over a glass of wine. Great stuff! Mike Bell.
The “Glencoe” workshop covers a fantastic itinerary of photogenic locations and hidden treasures. The tranquillity of Lochan na h-Achlaise on a still morning is something that I shall remember and cherish for the rst of my life. The journey from Rannoch moor down glen Etive is absolutely spectacular and there are so many opportunities on this route to capture a diverse range of stunning Scottish scenery and its unique atmosphere.
Dimitri is an excellent leader, his course is very well organised and he was always willing to share advice and offer constructive criticism. I’ve picked up some great tips regarding technique and composition, along with some good advice on the use of filters to bring out the best of the landscape and sky. Some great banter along the way as well, I would recommend attending one of his workshops to anyone, regardless of experience.
I loved every minute of the workshop on the isle of Skye. We visited some stunning places and Dimitri had clearly carefully planned every location to ensure we were there at the right time of day, to get the best possible light for our shots.
Through Dimitri’s tuition, I had the opportunity to try out new photographic techniques for me, such as long exposures and panoramic images.
In the evening, we spent time critiquing our images from the day and learning new processing methods. The tuition was excellent and I was so pleased with the results I achieved with my photographs using the techniques I learned. I have come home with a set of images I am really delighted with – in fact I can’t believe I actually took some of them!
Many thanks Dimitri for an excellent workshop, I would definitely like to join another one in the not too distant future.
…Oh yes and for the record, I do mean every word of it.
